NPD BookScan recently released figures for thriller book sales in the US, a category that accounts for one in eight adult fiction books sold.
The first quarter of the year has seen strong performance in the US market, with print unit sales up 29.2 percent versus last year.
According to NPD BookScan, print unit sales were 21.3 percent higher in January 2021 than in January 2020.
For the full year, UK’s Nielsen BookScan reports an estimated 5.2 percent increase in print unit sales over 2019.
Print sales continue to run ahead of 2019 according to NPD BookScan, which tracks sales through brick-and-mortar and online retailers.
Through the end of August 2020, NPD BookScan reports that total print unit sales are up by 5.6 percent over last year in the US.
For the week ending Aug. 15, year-to-date sales for print books were up by 5.5 percent versus 2019.
Driving factors right now are the continuing strong market for books on civil rights, history, and discrimination.
Through July 25, US print unit sales are up by 4.1 percent versus 2019, according to NPD BookScan.
